This year’s Tet season is special because once again, people all over Viet Nam will be celebrating New Year whilst living amidst the Covid pandemic raging across the globe. Especially challenging is the degree to which the pandemic has affected to the lives of poor people in Vietnam. During these difficult times, the SEN Charity has organised programs to help the community over the past year, and not content to stop there, SEN charity mobilized to help join hands together to bring a loving Tet to the poor. This program has been inspired in the spirit of the traditional saying that “The strong leaves protect the tattered ones”. Together with Tet programs launched in the South, North, and Central region, we are pleased to announce that we have implemented two programs specifically in Da Nang and Quang Nam on the first days of the new year 2022.
Our first stop in Danang was the Oncology Department of Danang Hospital, a major hospital of Da Nang City, treating patients from the Central and Highlands regions with 37 departments and 1,010 beds, and a treatment capacity of about 2000 cases per day. After discussion with Doctor Tuan, Head of the oncology department, we gave 50 Tet gift bags including cash and food to 50 disadvantaged cancer patients being treated at the oncology department.

We continued our journey to our second destination, the Hiep Duc Nursing Center in Quang Nam province. This is a private center founded by Ms. Trinh Thi Loi, and is a place to receive, nurture, and care for lonely sick elderly people without care. Expenses to run the center are provided by the family’s business and also with the support of generous donators. In 2020 we had previously visited and had provided gifts to the elderly people as well as donating essential equipment, and also providing funds to renovate the kitchen. The center currently supports nearly 50 elders with 10 staff on duty to take care of them, however the scale of the center is gradually expanding and upgrading to be able to accept more disadvantaged elderly people. On this occasion to visit the center again, we were happy to provide Tet gifts to the elderly people, essential food, and funds to the center which will help them to celebrate Tet. We also provided red envelopes to all the staff to offer our thanks to these the brothers and sisters for their dedication in taking care of everyone.

Although the pandemic has had the effect of making us insecure, worried, and afraid, we are happy during these difficult times that we can help our broader community to overcome these difficulties and take the time to lift each other’s spirits.
