Tet gift-giving for orphans of the covid pandemic

Tet comes to refresh the springtime, bringing with it a season of family reunions. But sadly, that cherished moment for many families has this year once again been diminished by the impacts of the Covid epidemic.

Covid has left many silent victims in its path including great losses for many families and making many thousands of children suddenly orphaned and helpless. For children from poorer families, in the sad event that the family loses its breadwinner, their life becomes much more precarious, and face many challenges and hardships. Through conducting a survey, we learned that District 8 has suffered one of the highest rates of children losing close family and loved ones during the recent epidemic. In response to this, SEN has coordinated together with District 8 Women’s Union to organize the program “Loving arms” in order to give gifts to 200 orphans experiencing difficult situations in the district.

On the morning of January 18, 2022, we travelled with the spirit of love and sharing from our SEN charity to the children in District 8. Gifts for Tet included cookies, milk, cheese, spring rolls, red donation envelopes, and we hoped that we could contribute something to Tet to help make them feel warmer and relieve some of their difficulties. We also helped to comfort them in the hope of reliving the terrible pain of losing loved ones.

During the gift giving we could help but notice that the children’s innocent eyes had been replaced by sadness, self-pity, and disappointment. We hope that our small gifts give them hope and wish that from their grief, they might somehow “turn pain into strength” in the future. We hope this and other future experiences in life will make them stronger and more resilient.

SEN wishes a Happy Tet and our very best wishes to all children impacted by Covid.
