The Mieu Ba bridge is located at Hamlet 5, Thanh Loc commune, Cai Lay district, Tien Giang province, which is 110 km from Ho Chi Minh City. The bridge crosses the Cha La Canal and was built in 2004 temporarily using the materials wood and concrete. Mieu Ba Bridge is a vital road in serving the needs of people traveling and making deliveries to and for both sides of the bridge. This is also the pathway to get to the Thanh Loc school for students living in this area. Currently, the bridge has been worn out through time, affecting the life and safety of people living around here, particularly in the rainy seasons.
SEN decided to rebuild this bridge to improve and aid the daily travelling needs of the people here. With the consent of the local authorities and the enthusiastic support of the people, the Mieu Ba Bridge began reconstruction in early May 2020.
During the construction process, we at SEN received support from both the local authorities and people. In addition, our fund received donations from the People’s Committee of Thanh Loc Commune, VK Group. With their help we were able to raise a substantial amount of US $2,802 in comparison to the total project costing US $16,884. After nearly 2 months of efficient reconstruction, Mieu Ba Bridge has been completed at a length of 35m, width of 3m and withstand 2 tonnes of weight. The opening ceremony was smoothly held with an air of warmth and joyfulness on July 2, 2020 with representatives of SEN Charity, local authorities, VK groups and local people and students.
On the occasion of the opening of the Mieu Ba Bridge, representatives from us at SEN gifted 10 bicycles to disadvantaged students as a way to encourage and support them to strive toward success in education and go forth in life. A small party was also held at the Thanh Loc school and some physical equipment such as badminton rackets, skipping ropes were gifted to the school for students to practice and play sports to strengthen their health.
Seeing the students happily coming to school on the new bridge and the bright eyes of the people here made us at SEN more confident in the path we have chosen to “Share Love – Connect Community”.
