Groundbreaking Ceremony for Drilling Well at Ba Khe Primary and Secondary School, Yen Bai Province – No. 23

Access to clean water is a fundamental and essential need for every individual in daily life. However, in many parts of Vietnam, having a safe and reliable source of clean water remains a distant dream — a deep longing yet to be fulfilled, especially in economically disadvantaged areas. In mountainous regions, especially during the dry season, limited economic conditions make the dream of safe and clean water an unfulfilled aspiration for many people.

This year, Yen Bai is the next stop on the journey of SEN Charity to bring clean water to communities in need.

After conducting site surveys in collaboration with local authorities, we have decided to construct a clean water facility at the Ba Khe Primary and Secondary School, located in Cat Thinh Commune, Van Chan District, Yen Bai Province.

On the morning of May 16, 2025, the Groundbreaking Ceremony for Drilling Well No. 23 at Ba Khe Primary and Secondary School was successfully held. The event took place in a warm and heartfelt atmosphere, with the participation of representatives from SEN Charity and the school’s teachers. The ceremony was conducted in accordance with local customs, featuring a traditional offering table prepared with care and respect

The school currently provides education for 637 students, including 270 semi-boarding students who are living and studying on campus under challenging conditions due to the lack of access to clean water.

The school currently relies on two main water sources: the commune’s clean water system and natural stream water. However, the commune’s system is insufficient to meet the needs of over 11,000 households in the area, while the natural stream water is not safe for drinking or cooking. The situation becomes especially critical during the dry season, when the streams often dry up and the natural water source becomes unusable. The school frequently faces a water shortage of 30–40% compared to its actual needs, with the semi-boarding area being most affected. During the dry season, students are forced to limit basic hygiene activities such as bathing and laundry. In some cases, they have to walk long distances down to the classroom area just to collect water for daily use.

This situation has a significant impact on their health, personal hygiene, and overall quality of learning.
